About the School
The School of Graduate Studies at Ahfad University for Women was officially established in 2016 following the approval of the University Academic Council, building on a long-standing commitment to postgraduate education that began in 1990. Graduate studies at AUW expanded significantly after the formation of the University Graduate Studies Committee in 1997, which oversees program quality, development, and academic standards.
Since then, the University has continuously developed graduate programs in response to community needs and labor market demands through local and international partnerships. Today, the School offers a wide range of postgraduate programs designed to advance professional expertise, promote research, and contribute to women’s empowerment and national development. Over 2,700 female graduates have completed postgraduate studies through AUW’s graduate programs.

Postgraduate Programs
Ph.D Degree
The term ‘PhD’ stands for ‘Doctor of Philosophy’ and is an advanced postgraduate degree involving three or more years of independent research on an original topic that can add new knowledge to the science arena.
Objectives
The aim of the PhD program is:
- To provide research training under supervision
- To foster development of independent research skills that include:
– Formulating a significant problem.
– Developing an appropriate conceptual and methodological research project.
– Relating the research topic to a broader framework of knowledge in the relevant disciplinary area.
- To promote dissemination of research outcomes.
AUW Doctor of Philosophy Programs
AUW provides applicants the opportunity to study for the Ph.D. degrees in the following Schools/Institutes
Master Degree
A master’s degree is an academic degree awarded by university upon completion of all requirements involving two years and Based on the regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and they refer to the minimum university requirements. It should be noted that programs may have additional requirements, these Programs are fourteen Programs available in SGS.
Objectives
The objectives of the Master Programs are:
- To provide an up to date theoretical knowledge.
- To prepare scholars to conduct academic research and disseminate findings.
- To offer exposure opportunities to real‐life settings.
AUW Postgraduate Programs/Studies
Postgraduate Diploma
There are two of postgraduate diplomas Programs available in SGS, these post-graduate diploma programs are mainly one-year programs that are divided into two semesters.
Objectives
The objectives of the Postgraduate Diploma Programs are:
- To provide technical skills in the area of the Postgraduate Diploma specialization.
- To contribute to the career development of participants who seek further advancement on the basis of a recognized professional qualification.
